For the 24th and 25.11.2012 in Bangkok a large demonstration in the area around the parliament, the Dusit Zoo and the seat of government ("Government House") has been announced. The government has for the 22nd time to 30.11.2012 set for the Bangkok city districts Phra Nakorn, and Dusit Pomprab special statutory arrangements on internal security force. In these districts, it can therefore inter alia come barriers to access, limitations on the use of electronic devices and possibly curfews. Travelers are advised to avoid the area during this period. The other usual tourist areas, both in Bangkok and in the rest of the country are not affected.

ท้องทะเลสีฟ้าแลดูเข้ม แต่ก็ไม่เชิงนัก  เรานั่งผ่อนคลายอยู่บนเก้าอี้โยก สายตาจับไปที่ชายคนหนึ่งที่โต๊ะข้างๆ พร้อมแผ่นกระดาษที่คลี่กางออกมา  บนกระดาษแผ่นนั้นตีเป็นตารางไม่ระบายสี มีตัวหมากสีแดงและสีขาวตั้งอยู่คนละฟาก หลายตัวมีลักษณะกลมแบนๆ บางตัวคล้ายเจดีย์ขนาดเล็ก ตรงกลางกระดานเป็นหมากรูปหัวม้าชัดเจน  ไม่ว่าจะมองในแง่ไหนมุมใดก็อดหวนนึกไปถึงการจัดวางหมากรุกไม่ได้ ใช่แล้ว นี่แหละหมากรุกชัดๆ หมากรุกอย่างที่เราคุ้นเคยเรียกขานกัน ที่จริงแล้ว ไม่ใช่หมากรุกตามแบบฉบับที่เป็นทางการของสมาพันธ์หมากรุกนานาชาติ

Der Abt Ampu ludt uns ein

Am Dientag, dem 26. Juni, ging es morgens im Wagen des Abtes Ampu vom Wat (Tempel oder auch Kloster) los zum Besuch seiner Wirkungsstätte. Der Tempel liegt unweit Bangkoks entfernt im Ban Sam Ober Bezirk, in der Pathum Thani Provinz.

Bei einer ersten Besichtigung mußten wir feststellen, daß auch dieser Tempel, wie fast alle Gebäude die in der Nahe von Flüßen liegen, vom letzten Hochwasser betroffen worden war. Vieles wurde jedoch in weiten Teilen schon wieder hergestellt. Die Schönheit und Pracht der Anlage waren so ein Augenschmaus.

Interessanter wurde der zweite Rundgang, bei dem uns der Abt selbst begleitete, er machte uns auf die Prachtstücke des Wats aufmerksam und gab viele Erklärungen zu den einzelnen Stücken ab. So konnten auch wir zwei Farang (Europäer) etwas vom tiefen Glauben der Thais wieder etwas besser verstehen. Außerdem wurde uns in jeder Sekunde bewußt, mit welcher Hochachtung die Menschen unserem Gastgeber entgegen kamen. Dies lag mit Sicherheit zum einen an seinem Amt, andererseits mag einige Hochachtung auch seinen Beziehungen zum Königshaus geschuldet sein. Zudem ist Ampu vom Wat viel auf Reisen, zuletzt in der Schweiz, wo er thailändische Gemeinden besucht und mit Rat und Tat zur Seite steht.

Eine kleine Gebetsrund, mit Unterweisung in die richtigen Rituale, beendete den Rundgang, nicht jedoch ohne daß wir kleine Metalltäfelchen bekamen, mit unseren Namen und unserem Geburtsdatum, die später in Schreine im Tempel untergebracht wurden. Da es Mönschen untersagt ist nach 11 Uhr zu essen, nahmen wir die Mahlzeit alleine ein, bevor eine weitere Besichtigung begann.

Eine etwa zehn Meter hohe, stehender Buddha wird verziert von einer wunderschönen sehr großen Parkoase. Die von einer dankbaren chinesischen Familie gestiftete Anlage, wird ständig ausgebaut und verschönert und selten haben wir einen so schön gepflegten Park gesehen. Auch hier erfolgten die Führung und die Erklärungen von unserem unermüdlichen Gastgeber. Er lies es sich auch nicht nehmen, uns auf der zwei stündigen Rückreise nach Pattaya, zu begleiten.

Facebook is testing and will soon launch Facebook Exchange, a real-time bidding ad system where visitors to third-party websites are marked with a cookie, and can then be shown real-time bid ads related to their web browsing when they return to Facebook. This retargeting option could be a huge money maker for Facebook as it will allow for more relevant direct advertising.

For example a travel site could serve ads about a flight to Hawaii to someone who almost bought a flight on their site. Advertisers might pay big premiums for highly-accurate targeting. Users will be able to opt out of Facebook Exchange via third-party demand-side platforms, but they can’t opt out of the program completely from within the social network.

German Foreign Minister toasts 150 years of diplomatic relations at chamber gala

Thai and German politicians continued to commemorate 150 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle appearing at a 50th anniversary celebration for the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

Industry Minister Pongsavas Svasti represented the Thai government at the April 28 gala at the St. Regis Hotel in Bangkok. Guests were treated to a champagne reception, five-course meal and performance from the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. (read more...)
